Pihlstrand’s lifestream

Eric Pihlstrand  //  Hi! What is interesting for you to know about me? I don't know for sure, but I do my best to tell a little about myself.

I've had a long interest in what you can do on the Internet. So right now I'm exploring the Social Media thing. I'm an early adopter, have been using Facebook for several years, Twitter sice 2008.

I'm father to three daughters, the oldest is also on the Internet with her own blog.

New goals ahead

Yesterday I quit my job as a seller. I’ve been planning this for a week now. For the last five months I’ve been working as a seller for Swedens largest business newspaper called Dagens Industri. For five months this has been a good trip for me. Haven’t earlier been working as a seller, and in this job I had to learn to be a good seller. And I succeeded.

Right after work ended yesterday afternoon I shook my boss's hand and said "I’m quitting". This was of course a surprise for him.

On Monday, March 1, I start working in Sandviken here in mid Sweden. A small company called Proinfo has hired me on a very short notice. I will be working with market research. Please visit
Proinfo’s site (only in Swedish).

Computer mess

On Monday the first of March one of computers starts rebooting every second hour. This means I’m using Windows7 Release Candidate 1. I’ve been using this Windows version for about a year now. This version of Windows is the best version I’ve been using ever.

My question to you: Should I install Windows7 again or should I try something else? Feel free to give me suggestions if you know of a good Linux distribution.

My rather expensive HP laptop aren’t working. I hope to get it back from service this weekend.

Blogging or not?

I find it difficult to get started with my blogging again. I have trouble expressing myself with written words. This hasn’t always been the case for me. But right now it’s a problem.

I Met with Anders Sporring today. Anders is more well-known as @cityrat59 on Twitter and many more sites. When we discussed my thoughts about this today he sad it’s about practicing. I need to practice all the time to get better. Of course it's about practicing :-). You can accomplish anything if you practice allot.

So this posting here on Posterous is partially a text for me to practice on.

Another problem I have with my blogging and my tweets is in what language should I write in? Swedish or English? On Twitter I have many followers from the U.S. And those of you who reads this blog, you aren’t that many, half of you probably don’t understand Swedish.

This post has been at rest for a half hour now. I wrote it first in Swedish and then in English. When I compare the two texts, the English version has more substance. So for a while now, I keep on blogging in English.

Time to shape up a little

What's happening around me?

I've been away from my blog for about a month now. The main reason is that I've been totally exhausted for the last weeks, no energy at all. This happens to me this time every year near Christmas. It's so dark here in mid Sweden this time of the year and it drains me of some my energy. Some winters I've been wondering if I get a depression because of the lack of daylight? I have done some tests to find out if that is the case. Also been talking to friends who have depressions once or twice a year. In my case nothing indicates that I'm depressed. Life is like this this time of the year. Sadly but true I must say.

Today I saw the light in a way. I noticed today that it's lighter outside a little longer in the afternoon. Here in mid Sweden where I live the sun today had sunset at 15.08 (3.08 PM). At the last of January the sunset is at 16.01 (4.01 PM). This means that it's not totally dark outside when I finish my work at 16.30 (4.30 PM). This is wonderful, many things will be much easier. My kids also gains from this. More energy and many more reasons for them to play outdoors. And then leave me some space indoors for making diner and many other things that must be done in a household with three kids and no mum.

Today me and the kids went to a my mother and said Happy Birthday to her. It was cold where she lives, outdoor temperature was below -21 degrees Centigrade (-4 F). We have beautiful days outdoors when the sun is shining. I took a photo with my iPhone when the sun was on it's way down.

PS. The Gigant Christmas Goat was set to fire on December 23. DS.

Theather

For a long time now, me and my kids has been waiting for this Saturday. I've got an invitation from a distant relative of mine at the end of the summer. An invitation to see her daughter in a play for the first time.

The play was about a spaceflight to the planet March. They where nine kids on stage having fun. We where almost 100 people in the audince  laughing and applauding. The play was one half hour long.

In my hometown Gavle the local community has several old
gas reservoirs. In those old reservoirs are several stages where you can watch theater. And today it was premiere for the theaters kids and their play.

I had some hope that one of my kids would find this intresting and join the theater company. After the play, at the café, I asked them if any of them would care to try acting for themselves. The answer is sadly no.

Home with a sick kid

The last two evenings my nine year old kid Alva has been very tired when I picked her up at the school. After we have finnished dinner @6.30 she has said she is tired. So she has went to bed and fallen asleep an hour earlier than her little sister. She also has made complaints to me about her sour throat.

This morning she got a terrible cough, sounding like astma. No fever yet thoug. Thanks for that.

I've just begun a new jobb as a seller for swedens biggest business newspaper, being home from work every other week is'nt ok for me. But there's nothing I can do about it. Just hope that she will be well before the week is over.

At lunch time here in Sweden I took a walk to see if the Worlds Biggest Christmas Goat is still in place.

And yes, no one has yet put it to fire.

Friday night with the kids

Finally all my kids are here with me tonight. My oldest daughter lives with me all the time. The two other lives with me every other week. And starting tonight they will be with me for a week.

My youngest one had an opereration yesterday (November 26), which went well. She had an operation in her throat and behind her nose. Now she's laying down in the soffa at my right side. Just before she falls asleep I will give her a painkiller. Then I hope she will be sleeping all night long.

My nine year old daughter got the opportunity to choose what movie we should watch tonight. Guess what here choise was? Bratz the Movie on Voddler. After a succesfull week on my work I'm tired. I don't think I will stay up much longer than my kids. So the only entertainment for me tonight will be the movie with my kids.

It's time for the biggest Goat of them all

Now on Sunday November 29 it's a world premier for the Goat in Gavle.

Here in Gavle we build the world largest goat right before christmas every year. Ever since 1966 the goat is built from straw.

Since 1966 the Goat has been burned down 22 times.

I will be reporting here what happens with the Christmas Goat.
